How To Replace or Retrieve A Lost Or Damaged Passport In Kenya, DIY Step Guide.

The Department of Immigration Services handles all issues to do with passports in Kenya. This includes application of new passports, renewal and replacement of lost or mutilated passports.

Here on this, you will find guidelines on how to successfully, retrieve or Replace your lost, damaged passport.

Requirements for Lost or damaged Passports :-

  • Submit online application on www.ecitizen.go.ke;
  • Ecitizen pre-filled passport application Form and two payment receipts;
  • A police abstract report explaining loss of passport;
  • Own application letter explaining circumstances of the loss of passport;
  • A Sworn in Affidavit to support circumstances under which the passport got lost or mutilated ;
  • Copies of lost passport or original of any previously held;
  • The damaged passport and a copy for those replacing a mutilated one;
  • Original Kenya National ID card and a copy;
  • A copy of birth certificate;
  • Additional documentary for proof of Kenya citizenship may be required if necessary;
  • Two recent passport size photographs on a white background (2 by 2 inches). The photo should be taken without spectacles, earings and both ears should be visible hence no hair on the forehead;

How to Replace a Lost Passport in Kenya

Step 1

Log in to the e-citizen portal.

Step 2

Select the Department of Immigration Services.

Step 3

Click on passport application.

Step 4

Choose the passport owner, whether it is you or your child.

Step 5

Proceed to choose the type of application. For this case, click on lost passport.

Step 6.

Carefully fill in the passport application form with the required details.

Step 7

Make the payment required, which is Kshs 12,050 (fee charged for replacement of the lost passport).

Step 8

Download the application form and book an appointment with the Department of Immigration Services.

Note: The process takes about five working days, after which your passport will be ready for collection. When collecting the passport, you will be required to bring proof of identification.

You must appear in person with the necessary documents at the immigration offices near you. Immigration offices are located in Nairobi (Nyayo House) and other towns such as Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisumu, Embu and Kisii. One must appear in person for the purpose of collection of fingerprints.
