Scottish Child Payment Application Form
Scottish Child Payment helps towards the costs of supporting your family. It’s a weekly payment of £25 that you can get for every child you look after who’s under 16 years of age.
It’s paid every four weeks by Social Security Scotland.
It’s up to you what you choose to spend the money on. You could use Scottish Child Payment for things like:

- nappies and other essentials
- childcare

Who is eligible for the Scottish Child Payment?
You can apply for Scottish Child Payment whether you are at work or not.
You may be eligible if all of the following apply:
- you live in Scotland
- you or your partner are getting certain benefits or payments
- you or your partner are the main person looking after a child who’s under 16 years old
Which benefits do you need to be getting?
You must get one of these benefits:
- Child Tax Credit
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit: if your UC is reduced to £0 by a sanction or a deduction, you can still get Scottish Child Payment
- Working Tax Credit.
- Universal Credit
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)

To make a claim:

- claim online at mygov.scot
- download a paper application form from mygov.scot
How to apply for Scottish Child Payment
Payments will be calculated from the day that you apply, so apply as soon as you can.
Applying for the Scottish Child Payment is straightforward and can be done in several ways, depending on your preference:
Online Mode
- This is the fastest and most convenient method. Visit myGov.Scot’s website at www.mygov.scot
- Suppose you don’t have a myGov.Create a Scot account, register with a username and password, and provide basic information.
- Follow the prompts to complete the online application form. You’ll need details about yourself, your partner (if applicable), and the child(ren) you’re applying for.
- You can save your progress and return to finish the application if needed.
- Once submitted, Social Security Scotland will assess your application.
Using Phone
- Call Social Security Scotland toll-free at 0800 182 2222, available Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- A representative will help you start your application over the phone, gathering the necessary information about you and your child(ren).
- They will send you a paper application form to finish and return in a prepaid envelope.
Via Paper
- Download the paper application form from the myGov.Scot website or request one by phone at 0800 182 2222.
- Complete the form with all required information and return it to Social Security Scotland using the provided prepaid envelope.

After the application, what’s next??
Social Security Scotland will tell you when they’ve received your application. They aim to process your application as quickly as possible.
A decision about your application can take up to two months. In a small number of cases, it can take longer.
They’ll write to you to tell you the result of their decision.
